In a Triumph of Sales and Electric Innovation
Rüsselsheim, Germany, January 15, 2024 – The Opel Corsa has once again asserted its dominance as the most sought-after small car in Germany, securing the top spot in the B segment for the third consecutive year, as reported by the Federal Office for Motor Traffic (KBA). With a staggering total of nearly 54,000 new registrations in 2023, the Corsa achieved an impressive 7% increase compared to the previous year, marking its highest registration levels since 2016.
Electric Evolution: Every Fourth Corsa is Battery-Electric Preliminary internal results reveal a remarkable shift towards sustainable mobility, with every fourth newly registered Opel Corsa being a battery-electric Opel Corsa Electric. This aligns with Opel’s commitment to electric innovation and mirrors the evolving preferences of consumers towards environmentally conscious choices.
Vauxhall Corsa: A Reigning Champion in the UK The success of the Corsa extends beyond German borders, with the Vauxhall Corsa proving its mettle as the best-selling supermini in the UK for the third consecutive year, according to the 2023 new car registration figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). Boasting 40,816 units sold, the Corsa not only dominated the supermini segment but also secured the position as the third best-selling car overall in the UK. Its impressive sales outpaced the second-best-selling model in the supermini segment by a remarkable 55.5%, underscoring the Corsa’s popularity among British consumers.
A Legacy of Success: Over 14.5 Million Corsas Sold Worldwide Since its debut in 1982, the Opel Corsa has consistently captured the hearts of consumers globally, with over 14.5 million units sold. Last year, Opel introduced the latest edition of this bestseller, featuring the distinctive Opel Vizor brand face, an intuitive cockpit design, new Intelli-Lux LED® Matrix Light, and various top-tier technologies. The Corsa received accolades for its design, winning the “Best New Design of 2023” in the “Small Car” category at the auto motor und sport readers’ choice award “autonis.”
Opel’s Vision for the Future: An Electrifying Transition Patrick Dinger, the head of Opel in Germany, expressed enthusiasm about the Corsa’s continued success, stating, “Our Corsa continues to lead the B segment and represents an important pillar of our car registrations in Germany. This shows, in these times of transformation, that we have the right offer for our customers in our Corsa and Corsa Electric.”
Dinger also outlined Opel’s commitment to an electric future, announcing plans to become a purely electric brand. Opel aims to offer at least one battery-electric model in each carline throughout the year, with upcoming releases like the Crossland successor and the new Grandland available with pure electric drive.
As the automotive industry undergoes a paradigm shift towards sustainability and electric mobility, the Opel Corsa stands as a shining example, not only meeting consumer expectations but surpassing them with its blend of innovation, style, and eco-consciousness.\
